The Los Angeles Derby Dolls were founded in 2003 as Southern California’s premiere roller derby league. Five teams compete every year: Fight Crew, Sirens, Swarm, Tough Cookies, and Varsity Brawlers. They are one of only 13 leagues in the U.S. playing roller derby on a banked track. The Los Angeles Derby Dolls are volunteer-run and give back to the community by attending charity walks, health fairs, and operating a Junior Derby Dolls for girls ages 8-17. The Los Angeles Derby Dolls have been honored as a “Treasure of Los Angeles” by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa for their athleticism, community involvement and leadership.
If you can’t make it to the game Saturday, there is an all ages Baby Doll brawl on Sunday, November 13, where the newest Derby Dolls will play. The Junior Derby Dolls will play during half-time along with Sabrina Lentini performing the national anthem. Tickets are $5-$20. To buy tickets, click here.
Attending a Los Angeles Derby Dolls game is great way to experience Los Angeles grassroots athletics. Don’t miss the events this weekend, and check back next year if you’re in the area!
