Lucille Ball is a Hollywood icon who made millions of people laugh and helped her viewers forget about the stresses of life during her show. This year is the 100th anniversary of Lucille Ball’s birthday and the Hollywood Museum and CBS are celebrating her with the “Lucille Ball at 100 & ‘I Love Lucy’ at 60”. The exhibit which began on August 3rd and ends on Nov 30th will be at the Hollywood Museum and feature a special exhibit the “Queen of Comedy” and Genius of Desi. There will be plenty of memorabilia celebrating the careers and romance of both Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez.
There is a bit of nostalgia involved with the Hollywood Museum being at the historic Max Factor Building. Lucille Ball went for makeup and hair treatments from Mr. Factor back when she filming that transformed her into America’s most beloved redhead. The room where she became a redhead will be on display at the exhibit and is called the “Redheads Only Room”. There will also be her numerous awards, certificates, trophies and plaques she achieved. The famous first national TV Guide featuring Desi Jr on the cover as the $50 million dollar baby as well as an enormous photography collection covering Lucy’s childhood, modeling, film, TV, radio and some personal shots.
There are costumes on display such as her flapper dance costume she wore in “Here’s Lucy” and her Elizabethan gown worn in “the Luci-Desi Comedy Hour,” 1957. Some of Lucy’s most famous scripts from her films and television will be shown and even her autographed leg cast from her 1972 ski accident will be on display.
