Celebrating the start of Downtown On Ice, the ever popular tradition of ice skating in sunny Los Angeles is back. The beautiful outdoor rink opens on November 15th and stays open right through to January 21st – including opening hours for Christmas Day and New Year’s Day – all for just $8 per person. Located in Pershing Square, the rink is the largest outdoor skating rink in the city and is always popular with locals and visitors. If you will be staying at one of the hotels near Pershing Square Los Angeles, be sure to enjoy a day ice skating!
The Downtown On Ice program has led numerous free events for the enjoyment of the Los Angeles community, including a series of holiday concerts and performances, exhibitions of championship level skaters, screenings of movies and community festive sing-alongs. Since 1998, when the events began, the Downtown On Ice celebration has become a favorite part of the winter calendar. In previous years, there have been performances by big names like Radio City Music Hall’s Rockettes and special appearances by Mayor Villaraigosa.
As well as being the largest outdoor skating rink in the city, it cannot be denied that it is one of the most beautiful. In Pershing Square, surrounded by the city’s hustle and bustle and the backdrop of skyscrapers, it is a unique environment to enjoy skating with the family or with friends and making Christmas memories. The ice rink will also feature booths of refreshments and other items, like kettle corn and the popular local funnel cakes, as well as tenders from local food trucks and mobile caterers who will be making their offerings to feed the skaters when they’ve worked up their appetite on the ice.
Ice skates are included in the entry price and lockers are available for storing shoes and personal items. There is even a photographer on the ice to take photos of couples and groups, who is willing to take multiple shots to get your best side. The holiday atmosphere is at its best here at the Pershing Square rink.
