Watch a Movie at the World Famous Chinese Theater!

Chinese Theater

When anyone thinks of Hollywood they think of celebrities, red carpet premieres, and movies. One place in Hollywood that completely embodies all three of these things is the Chinese Theater. The Chinese Theater is located in the heart of Hollywood on Hollywood Blvd near Highland Ave. If you will be staying at one of the hotels close to Hollywood be sure to plan a visit to the Chinese Theater!

The Chinese Theater was built based on the vision by Sid Grauman in 1927. After creating the Egyptian Theater and Million Dollar Theater, Grauman wanted to build a theater of Chinese design that resembled a palace. Grauman also wanted his theater to be as authentic as possible. He went out of his way to receive permission from the U.S. government to have pagodas, stone Heaven Dogs, temple bells, and other items imported from China. Grauman even hired Moon Quon, a film director and poet to supervise Chinese artisans who built the majority of the statues in the Forecourt of the Stars. The theater is 90 feet high and is easily recognizable in Hollywood because of its grand design.

Some recent premieres that have taken place at the Chinese Theater include 42, The Voice season 4, Game of Thrones, and The Incredible Burt Wonderstone. Though the Chinese Theater plays host to these exclusive premieres it does not mean that the theater is not open to the public. Anyone is free to catch a movie, with contemporary and classic films showing daily. While at the theater, you can get a glimpse of the Forecourt of the Stars. This is where celebrities over the years have marked their presence with footprints and handprints in the cement squares of the theater.
