If you have ever attended one of the many shows hosted in our WC Fields Bar & Lounge, chances are you are a fan of comedy! Lucky for you, Hollywood has many great shows for comedy fans where they can go to witness a variety of comedy styles from stand-up, to improv, and much more. One of the best places for some genuinely hilarious comedy is the famous Groundlings. If you’re unfamiliar with the Groundlings, it is a reputable school in Los Angeles that has taught and nurtured many comedians who have grown to be common household names. However, on top of being a well-respected school, the Groundlings is famous for its amazing comedy shows open to the public.
Shows run typically most nights at the Groundlings, located in Los Angeles on Melrose Avenue (shopping or drinks before a show, anyone?). Many nights have shows at 8pm or 10pm, providing many options for a night out including a Groundlings show at whatever time is most convenient! The theater itself is small and because of the ample audience participation throughout most of the shows, it’s easy to feel as if you’re one of the gang too when you attend a Groundlings show. Most of the shows are improvised, proven by all the audience shout-out requests that are generally granted. You may even recognize some of the actors on stage from your favorite television shows! As mentioned, many big names got their start at the Groundlings. Some of the famous alum include Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolph, Cheryl Hines, Will Ferrell, Kathy Griffin, and many, many more. Don’t be surprised if one of the alumni drops in for a surprise guest appearance!
Because of its home on Melrose, there are many options of great restaurants or bars to check out after the show within walking distance. Visit Darkroom across the street to sip a drink in a chill ambiance, or eat before at Mao’s Kitchen or the tasty hidden gem Blu Jam. There’s also Lala’s Argentine Grill which boasts tasty Latin American food. Stroll down Melrose Avenue and check out the stores, many of which are open late to cater to the great nightlife in the area. If you are staying in hotels near Melrose Avenue Los Angeles, attending a Groundlings show is a must!
