Now that the new 2014 season of performances have been announced for the Hollywood Bowl, it’s time to start putting dates into calendars and planning trips to see some of the best quality entertainment available in the area.
Kicking off on the weekend of June 14th and 15th, the 36th Annual Anniversary Playboy Jazz Festival will be taking to the stage. Hosted by George Benson and starting at 3pm on both Saturday and Sunday afternoons, Benson welcomes special guests Earl Klugh, Dianne Reeves, Jamie Cullum, the Arturo Sandoval Big Band, plus Kenny Barron with his guest Ravi Coltrane, and additional acts still to be announced. Always popular, the Playboy Jazz Festival is a great concert opportunity to immerse yourself in the smooth and stylish jazz performed by some of the biggest names in the industry.
The weekend after, on Saturday June 21st, marks the official opening of the Hollywood Bowl. ‘Opening Night At The Bowl’ will see the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, led by conductor Thomas Wilkins, perform some of the best pieces in their repertoire to a packed house, celebrating the start of the season in style at 8pm. On Sunday, June 22nd, Janelle Monáe will be leading the KCRW World Festival 2. Hosted by Garth Trinidad, other acts include Seun Kuti and Egypt 80, plus Roman GianArthur. One week later, June 29th, KCRW World Festival 1 will see Jason Bentley hosting a night headlined by Röyksopp and Robyn,with additional acts still to be announced. Both of these events are set to be massively popular with fans travelling from all around the country.
Independence Day wouldn’t be the same without the Hollywood Bowl Fireworks Spectacular, which this year will be taking place on Wednesday July 2nd, Thursday 3rd, and of course, Friday the 4th as well. Featuring the US Air Force Band of the Golden West, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, led by conductor John Morris Russell, and Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers supported by Edie Brickell. It’s an all-American show that’s perfect for the whole family. Then on Tuesday, July 8th, the famous Joshua Bell will play violin with the Los Angeles Philharmonic in a program of classical greats.
