This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Long Beach Grand Prix! In celebration of the event a whole host of entertainment options can be found in Long Beach. Along with the phenomenal Grand Prix of Long Beach, race fans while staying in Hollywood can also enjoy the 2014 Verizon IndyCar series event. This year’s race weekend takes place April 11th-13th 2014, with an incredible street circuit created in downtown Long Beach. The event will take place in the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center, the Aquarium of the Pacific and a section of the Pike at the Rainbow Harbor Complex. It will both start and finish at Shoreline Drive, and this course runs just under 2 miles in length complete with eleven turns.
One of the largest spectator events in the whole of Southern California, the Grand Prix attracts more than one hundred and seventy thousand fans each year. The featured race of the weekend will be the Sunday afternoon IndyCar event, with its line-up of world class drivers. Defending champion of the Series, Scott Dixon, will be trying to retain his title against rival Takuma Sato! Past winners of the event will be among the drivers as well, like Will Power, Helio Castroneves, Ryan Hunter-Reay and Sebastian Bourdais.
A number of other competitions will draw crowds on each of the three days, extending the excitement to its maximum. The Pro-Celebrity Race is back for the 38th time, featuring stars of sports and entertainment battling against the professional racing drivers in specially prepared Scion FR-S cars at midday on Saturday. The Motegi Racing Super Drift Challenge is also incredibly popular, featuring sixteen top precision racers. Qualifying for this event is on Friday night, with the race itself on Saturday evening and featuring last year’s defending champion Matt Powers.
