If you like toys, art and design, there’s a great event for you to check out in Los Angeles this fall! The Pasadena Convention Center is hosting the 5th annual Designer Con at the Pasadena Convention Center from 10am to 5pm.
The first show was created to bring together artists, manufactures, distributors and retailers in the toy and collectible figures market but DesignerCon has grown since 2006. The convention incorporates everything in the design world including apparel, plush, printing, sculpture, designer toys and art. The first show was in an 1100 square foot meeting room at the Pasadena Convention Center but now is housed in a 25,000 square foot hall with over 90 vendors, shows, live demonstrations and much more.
In 2006, DesignerCon was founded under the name Vinyl Toy Network. In 2009, the name was changed to “DesignerCon” to reflect the other artistic elements of the show beyond vinyl toys, including clothing, printing and plush items. DesignerCon was founded by companies who remain vendors at the convention this year who strive to provide a fun, safe and comfortable environment for fans, artists and vendors to come together.
Each year DesignerCon offers a $5 re-usable goodie bag filled with toys, magazines, stickers and pins from sponsors. All proceeds from the sale of the bag go towards improving DesignerCon for the years to come. A 2011 DesignerCon exclusive is a brass and black metal badge by Doktor A. It’s a classic vintage piece that can only be sold to 80 lucky guests for $10 each. Buy yours early because they are sure to sell out quickly!
Admission to DesignerCon is $5 online, $7 at the door and children under 12 can get in for free. Entry is FREE after 3pm. Stop by, admire the art, and you may even find the perfect holiday gift for an artsy loved one!
