Los Angeles may not be the most ideal place to spend the holidays with a lack of winter weather, but this year, several skating rinks are popping up across the city to bring locals and visitors a piece of a winter wonderland. Ice skating is a great way to work off stress from the holidays or business traveling. Read below for information on ice skating and other winter activities in downtown’s own Pershing Square!
Take the Red Line downtown for the cheapest ice skating rink in all of Los Angeles! From November 15, 2012 to January 21, 2013 Pershing Square will be transformed into a glowing ice rink. Come celebrate the 15th year of Downtown on Ice with free events such as a winter concert series, championship skating exhibitions, broomball games and the Winter Holiday Festival adding to festivities. Lunchtime concerts will run between December 17-23 and on December 26-30 from noon to 2pm. Weekend concerts will run Saturdays December 22 & 29 from 8-10pm and Sundays December 23 & 30 from 2-4pm. Tunes will include country, folk, rock, classic rock, disco, alternative and holiday music.
Other events at Pershing Square include the Annual Winter Holiday Festival on Saturday, December 8. You can bring the kids to share their lists with Santa as Pershing Square is transformed into a winter wonderland. There will be many free activities from 11am to 7pm such as snow, a train ride, children’s crafts to make and take home, puppet shows, community youth performances, photos and much more. You can also purchase stocking stuffers and holiday treats. There will also be a Menorah Lighting at 5:30pm on Sunday, December 9. For more information on these events, click here.
Tickets are $6 per one-hour skating session and $2 for skate rental. The rink is open Monday through Thursday 12pm to 10pm and Friday-Sunday from 10am to 10pm. The rink is located at 532 South Olive Ave.
