Hollywood recently opened its doors to a new Cirque du Soleil performance that is set to play in the city for the next 10 years! IRIS (pronounced “ee-rees”) is a fun and exciting show that, appropriately enough, ties in Hollywood themes that take the audience on a wild adventure through the history of cinema and beyond. Full of visually stimulating sets, trapeze artists flying through the air, flashy costumes, and more, Cirque du Soleil IRIS is a must-see for anyone living in or visiting LA looking for a fun afternoon or evening in the heart of Hollywood!
From the moment you walk into the beautiful historic Kodak Theatre, you are transported into a world of magic and mystery. Characters right out of the show wander in full costume throughout the lobby as you order snacks and even as you enter the theatre. The show might start out a little slow and calm but once it gets off the ground (literally!) it is non-stop action. Performers are constantly flying through the air above you, so seats on the lower level of the theatre are probably best. The entire story is about the history of cinema, so each act is unique in that it focuses on a different aspect of film. The acts are full of dancing, gymnastics, trapeze tricks, and more. One of the best parts of the whole performance is the amazing score by composer Danny Elfman. The music is magical and compliments each act perfectly. The entire production has clearly been crafted by some of Hollywood’s greatest talents and is overall a wonderful addition to the city of Angels. Tickets come in a variety of prices, depending on the location of your seats, and they start at $43 and go up to $133. We actually currently have a Cirque du Soleil special where you can book 2+ nights with us and receive 20% off your tickets!
If you arrive at the theatre a bit early, not to worry! The Kodak Theatre is located inside the Hollywood & Highland shopping center which has a lot of fun shops and food options. Stroll down to Hollywood Boulevard to mingle and have your picture taken with celebrity look-alikes and characters right out of the movies!
If you enjoy the IRIS performance, OVO by Cirque du Soleil will be playing in Santa Monica from mid-January to the end of February, as well as the new Cirque du Soleil Michael Jackson show that will be at Staples Center for a couple performances at the end of January. With so many Cirque performances available to you in this city, be sure not to miss out!
