Have you ever wondered what more you can do to help save our planet? Besides the typical duties of recycling and swapping out your light bulbs, that is. Well, now is the time to become educated about the ways to preserve Mother Earth a little longer. Join others in an eco-friendly festival in Los Angeles that celebrates the environment, music, animals, and humanity. The WorldFest 2011 Earth Day Festival is this Sunday, May 22, from 10:30am until 7 pm. It will be held in the lovely outdoor area that is Woodley Park in Lake Balboa, near where Interstate 405 meets the 101 Freeway. This solar-powered event will feature a combination of educational talks and exhibits, live music, kids’ activities, pet adoptions, a beer garden, and more.
The park will be separated into various sectors like the Main Stage, EcoTent, Healthy Hut, Earth Lounge, BarkFest, Kids’ World, vegan food court, pet adoption center, and beer/wine garden. The Main Stage and Earth Lounge will have speakers like Lu Parker and Leilani Münter staggered all day covering topics like the environment and animal rights, as well as numerous musicians performing folk, jazz, Celtic, and reggae music. The Healthy Hut will feature health panels and speeches by empowering professionals such as Bobby Rock and Jason Wrobel. The EcoTent will provide information on the electric car, composting, eco-friendly materials, healthy diets, recycling, and lots of other green tips! Kids’ World activities include yoga and movement, music and dance, facepainting, guest speakers on nutrition and green parenting, storytelling, games, crafts, and more. The adoption center will have available dogs, cats, and rabbits for those looking for a furry friend to take home! The BarkFest area is a new off-leash dog park inside the WorldFest event. There will also be over 100 exhibitors showcasing their eco- and animal-friendly products and messages.
WorldFest will also feature many new green initiatives this year. If you bring your own water bottle to the festival, you can get free filtered drinking water all day. Special steel bottles and compostable cups for $1 will also be sold. If you would like to bike to the event, WorldFest volunteers will have an area where you can lock your bike and they watch over it for you while you are enjoying the celebration. In an effort to promote healthy lifestyles, you get a discounted admission inside the park if you bike to it. There will also be a recycling drive for old cell phones and printer cartridges.
This event is sure to fill your day with fun while also providing helpful tips for keeping pollution down in the beautiful City of Angels. So come out to the WorldFest 2011 Earth Day Festival and help the environment by promoting social justice, animal rights, and healthy living.
