Founded in 2009 by a small but dedicated group of beer enthusiasts in the Los Angeles area, LA Beer Week is an event to remember. More truthfully a 10 day event than a week of celebrations, venues across the city participate in tasting sessions, educational and informative seminars and dinners teaching participants to pair beers with dishes. Running in 2013 for its fifth year, the LA Beer Week is being held between September 19th and 29th all across the town and proceeds this year are being donated to the Spero Foundation and the Los Angeles Brewers Guild. If you will be at one of the hotels around Hollywood CA, don’t miss this event!
Officially starting with the Opening Gala celebrations, held at Union Station on the 22nd of September between 11am and 3pm, the event will have in the region of fifty breweries from around the world present with their beers and happily talking about their production methods and unique flavours. The Beer Week this year is supported by more than two hundred participants, including fine beer houses and breweries, restaurants, bistros – and local people too! A huge part of the fun of the Beer Week is the events organised to celebrate everyone’s favourite drink, and this year will be no different.
From the ‘Close Your Eyes and Think of England’ sausage and cask ale night at the South Bay Tin Roof Bistro to a musical beer crawl around town organized by the Mohawk Band, the Short Stop in Echo Park or the Allagash beer dinner to be held in the Whittier Bottle Room, there is something to suit all personalities and level of interest in brewing and beers. On a continuous basis, new events are being announced so be sure to check the festival website for the latest details. Also new for this year is the Beer Is Art exhibition at the La Luz de Jesus Gallery on Hollywood Boulevard. Opening on Friday 6 September, it’s a great event showcasing the artistry contained in 4” beer coasters.
