The City of West Hollywood has been proud to present its program of “2014 Winter Sounds,” which is a range of entertainment and musical performances in various locations across the West Hollywood area, spread regularly between January 11 and March 8. Acts have represented genres as diverse as jazz, classical, and bluegrass music. As the nights are growing shorter once more, the concert series is drawing to a close, and the final performance is billed to occur soon. A free of charge series, the concert this March is the last opportunity to witness the shows within the Winter Sounds Concert Series and to take part in these popular community concerts.
This year’s Winter Sounds Concert Series will be closed by the Brazilian Soul Trio. From 4pm to 6pm on March 8, in the music rooms of the City Council Chambers on North San Vicente Road, this unique trio will be showcasing their talents by exploring a blend of jazz, soul, and pop music. With an undeniable Brazilian flair, the trio merge samba and Latin elements with contemporary pop for arrangements which are as catchy as they are unique. Led by singer and guitarist Carla (Carlinha) Hassett, who hails from Sao Paulo and is known to many for her work on the movie soundtracks for “Rio” and its sequel “Rio 2,” the trio also features the talents of guitarist Joe De Sa, originally of Belo Horizonte, and Felipe Fraga, a percussion player from Curitiba. Their performances as a trio seamlessly combine Brazilian inspired covers of American classic pop tunes with more traditional music and their original material. Carla Hassett’s song ‘Julia’ (featuring Mike Patton) was nominated at the 10th Independent Music Awards and is just one of the hits in their repertoire.
Not only are the concerts free of charge to guests and audience members, but there is also free validated car parking. Simply retain the parking slip and present it at the venue. So visitors who are staying in hotels near West Hollywood and have a rental car should take full advantage of this event as it provides free entertainment and convenience on a Saturday night in Los Angeles.
